This is the first time that the Indian railways has reopened a closed railway crossing in recognition of the needs of the public.

The Railway crossing was closed some time ago, after the rail over bridge that was constructed over it was opened to the public more than year ago.
However, the railway crossing was open for some more time owing to pressure from the public to keep it open. But it was closed later on.
Meanwhile, the people took the issue to the Anantapur MP and other public representatives urging them to ensure that the crossing be opened for the public.
With the political class taking up the issue with the railway board and the Railway Ministry, the railway officials relented and consequently the crossing was opened for the public.
However, it is learnt that the Anantapur municipality is bearing the cost of running the railway crossing until a foot over bridge, which has been sanctioned recently, comes up over the crossing.
