This station has 5 platforms but hardly any trains why is it so ?
Freight traffic (mainly from Bailadila iron ore mines to Vizag, also from Damanjodi Bauxite Mines to Vizag and Angul) but also lack of attention towards passenger connectivity for the region by Railways and different Governments.
Koraput is in odissa state with Bhubaneswar capital and Visakhapatnam is the nearest city for healthcare for the region. The area is deeply located tribal area with less population of 2 lacs combined within a radius of 50km. At present Koraput has a daily train to it's capital BBS, Howarah, Passenger to Vskp and another 2 sets of express trains one at night and another daytime to Visakhapatnam and are sufficient for the population and demand. The trains to Visakhapatnam are 12/14 coach and are only half occupied from Kirandul to Koraput which is half the distance of route and rest occupancy comes from Rayagada which is in plains and Araku I'm Andhra. The Platforms constructed which are stabling lines for freight trains.
