Four years on, railway restores 140 pairs of express trains to passenger category

Southern Railway is reverting 140 pairs of trains back to ordinary second-class passenger category from July 1st. This decision, originally implemented as a temporary measure in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 lockdown, will make the reduced fare of Rs 10 permanent. Passengers are relieved as the fare for these trains was hiked to Rs 35-45 after they were converted to express trains in 2020. This move will impact various routes including Chennai Egmore - Puducherry, Chennai Beach - Tiruvannamalai MEMU, Katpadi - Salem, Villupuram - Tiruchy, Coimbatore - Pollachi, Mannargudi-Mayiladuthurai, Tirunelveli-Tiruchendur, Nagapattinam-Velankanni. Railway officials and passengers have expressed relief and concern over the confusion caused by verbal directives regarding policy decisions in the past.
