As per Railway Minister press brief, here are few highlights.
Around 40,000 Vande Bharat coaches will be produced over the next 5 to 6 years, currently 4 VB express rakes (32 coaches per month) are produced per month at ICF. Around 40,000 coaches would translate roughly around 3,000 rakes of VB type including Chair car version, Metro version, Sleeper version, etc. This traslates roughly around 500 train rakes per year, which is a steep target given the ICF producing around 50 rakes per year and other coaches are either LHB...
more... or MEMU trains. The current production capacity of 8000 per year can be completely moved to VB rakes, then only the target of 40,000 is possible over 5 to 6 years.
The corridors to be constructed are -
(1) High Density Traffic Corridor - Chaturbujh (Golden Quadrilateral including NS and EW lines) for a total length of 22,000 kms, which will be extending from 2 lines to 4 lines, in some busy sections from 4 lines to 6 lines, which would improve the passenger carrying capacity. The implementation of these expansion programme is feasible within next 5 to 6 years, as the land is already available with IR in these Six Corridors.
(2) Gati shakti corridors which is meant for frieght transport corridors of around 14,000 kms for commodities and Container transport.
(3) port corridors of length of around 2,500 kms.
The total new railway lines of around 40,000 kms length of new lines will be laid over the next 6 years. The total capital expenditure would be around 10 lakh crores funded by the GoI.
