much-awaited Namma metro or Bangalore metro Phase-I (a length of 42 km) is expected to get fully commissioned by March 2016. It is one of the six projects monitored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation (PRAGATI) platform. As of now, 19.1 km of the total network is functional. Another 6.4-km stretch between Mysuru road and Magadi road will be opened to public by December 2015. A total of Rs.138.5 billion is estimated to be invested to build this rail network.

During 2016-18, Rs.612.7 billion worth of projects are scheduled for completion. Most of the large projects expected to come up during this period concern with the development of metro lines and broad gauge railway lines. Details of some of these projects are mentioned below:-
The Rs.30.9 billion-worth Badarpur-Faridabad metro line will be fully operational by December 2017. In September 2015, the 13.8-km long Badarpur-YMCA Chowk stretch covering nine stations was inaugurated. The 3.2 km-YMCA Chowk-Ballabgarh line with two more stations will be added by December 2017. The project aims to offer direct connectivity to residents of Faridabad with various parts of Delhi and vice-versa.
The second phase of Mumbai Monorail project between Wadala Depot and Jacob Circle, a distance of 11.2 km, is scheduled for completion in June 2016. The first phase of monorail corridor from Chembur to Wadala Depot (8.8 km) was launched in February 2014. The total cost of the project is pegged at Rs.30 billion.
The construction of broad gauge on Agartala-Udaipur-Sabroom railway line is expected to be completed at a cost of Rs.28.8 billion. The Agartala-Udaipur section (44 km) will be ready by March 2016 and work on the remaining stretch of Udaipur-Sabroom (68 km) is likely to get over by March 2018.
With an investment of Rs.28.5 billion, City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) will complete Phase-I of the Navi Mumbai Metro project by May 2017. It will cover a distance of 11.1 km along eleven stations between Belapur and Pendhar.
A broad gauge railway line from Bairabi to Sairang in the state of Mizoram will be built by March 2018. The scope of the project involves the construction of 23 tunnels of nine kms along with 36 major bridges and 147 minor bridges. A cost of Rs.28.2 billion is likely to be incurred in completing the project.
