It will feature a grand entrance and exit, smooth pathways, 10 ticket booking windows, improved platform surfaces, solar panels, coach indication boards, toilets, a sewage treatment plant, foot overbridges, water coolers, lifts, a parcel area, platform shelter, passenger reservation counters, and escalators. It will also have a reserve lodge, a multi-modal transport hub, and a concourse area. Currently, the station sees over 50,000 passengers daily and the redevelopment aims to improve passenger experience and cater to increasing passenger numbers. The project is being implemented in a phased manner. Apart from Raipur and Durg, 15 other stations in the South East Central Railway's Raipur division are also undergoing redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme. These stations include Bhatapara, Bhilai Power House, Tilda-Nevra, Bilha, Bhilai, Balod, Dalli Rajhara, Bhanupratapur, Hathband, Sarona, Maroda, Mandir Hasaud, Urkura, Nipania, and Bhilai Nagar. The redevelopment work is progressing rapidly, with some stations having completed 50-80% of the work.

For ticketing, travelers are encouraged to utilize the UTS app, which can be downloaded from the Play Store. It allows for the purchase of general tickets for any station with a three-hour travel limit and provides access to ordinary, mail/express, and superfast tickets. It also offers season tickets, platform tickets, and login with both a password and OTP. To obtain tickets at the station, scan the QR code provided and use the 'QR Booking' option. Passengers can use the Automated Ticket Vending Machine (ATVM) available at major railway stations to purchase unreserved tickets. For counter tickets, scan the QR code.
