पश्चिम रेलवे रतलाम मंडल पर अधोसंरचनात्‍मक विकास के क्षेत्र में तीव्र गति से कार्य हो रहा है। आमान परविर्तन, दोहरीकरण एवं नई लाइन का कार्य शीघ्रता से किया जा रहा है। मंडल के  नीमच- चित्‍तौड़गढ़, उज्‍जैन-देवास-इंदौरतथा राऊ-डॉ. अम्‍बेडकर नगर खंड के कार्य को सफलता पूर्वक पूरा किया जा चुका है।

का दोहरीकरण हो चुका है तथा जो खंड बचे हैं वोभी स्‍वीकृत है या उन पर दोहरीकरण कार्य चल रहे हैं।

वर्तमान में यदि दोहरीकरण की बात करें तो रतलाम-नीमच लगभग 133 किलोमीटर खंड काकार्य लगभग 1095.88 करोड़ की लागत से किया जा रहा है। इस कार्य हेतु इस बार के बजटमें काफी अच्‍छा फंड लगभग 400 करोड़ रुपये का आवंटन भी किया गया है। इस खंड के कुल133 किमी में से धौसवास से नामली 11.79 किमी तथा नामली से बड़ायला चौरासी 11.28किमी अर्थात कुल 23.07 किमी का कार्य पूर्ण होकर दोहरीकृत खंड से ट्रेनों कापरिचालन आरंभ किया जा चुका है। नीमच- रतलाम खंड के दोहरीकरण के तहत अन्‍य खंडोंमें भी कार्य शीघ्रता से किया जा रहा जिसमें नीमच-हरकियाखाल 12.83 किमी तथाहरकियाखाल मल्‍हारगढ़ 12.45 किमी खंड को शीघ्र ही पूर्ण कर लिया जाएगा ।  

नीमच-रतलाम दोहरीकरण कार्यको प्राथमिकता से किया जा रहा है तथा कार्य को निर्धारित समयावधि में पूर्ण करनेके लिए धौसवास-रतलाम, धौसवास-नामली, नामली-बड़ायला चौरासी, बड़ायला चौरासी-ढोढर, दलौदा-ढोढर, मंदसौर-दलौदा, मल्‍हारगढ़-मंदसौर,हरकियाखाल-मल्‍हारगढ़ एवं नीमच-हरकियाखाल जैसे छोटे-छोटे खंडों मेंबांटकर तथा उचित स्‍तर पर निगरानी के साथ पश्चिम रेलवे रतलाम मंडल की निर्माण इकाईके कुशल निर्देशन में कार्य का निष्‍पादन किया जा रहा है।
