I have been travelling to Madras the present Chennai since 1962 from Bengaluru. Train number 39/40 Brindavan Exp was introduced in the year 1964 and train became the fastest intercity train in south india in BG and Vaigai Exp between Egmore and Madurai in MG sec.In chennai if some body runs fast they used to compare it with the speed of Vaigai Exp.Train number 40 used to take 5.20 mts leaaving MAS at 7.40 and reaching SBC at 1pm with single track between JTJ and SBC and commercial halts at KPD,JTJ and BNC.Now with double electrified tracks between MAS and SBC and stopping at AJJ,KPD,AMUBUR,JTJ,KPN,BWT,KJM and other small places it takes more than 6 hours.Travelling in 39/40 was a prestige issue then.
