Train do run on this route (source - myself, I live in this city), my uncle used to live near punaichak station till last year. The line has been in existence from over 10 years (My uncle saw it in 2005 when he first moved there). A pair of demu trains run daily on this line except Sunday, one around 12 noon towards digha ghat and one towards r block around 3 PM from puniachak. I never really cared to took note of exact timing, nor did my uncle. The stations on route have no infrastructure, there are just boards with station names, no platforms, no ticket counters, nothing ( literally). People living around say there used to...
more... be ticket counters when the line was first built. It was a hit till a month or two but afterwards the no of passengers just kept declining. Within no time number of trains on the route declined. It turned out to be a huge loss for railways. Railway still loses 100s of crores because of running trains on this route. The income from ticket sales is 0 cause guess what there are no counters. Even without ticket counters there are hardly any passengers, I have never seen more than 20 people in the whole train, which is of 3-4 coaches. Plus the railway line passes through Bailey road which is one is the busiest roads of patna, the passing of trains creates a huge unnecessary traffic jam daily.
Earlier the trains used to run from PNBE to DGHT via SCY (yes you heard it right, it is connected to PNBE) and back, with a train even starting from PNC (to DGHT). But due to congestion on the main line the trains were shifted to RBHT. You must be be thinking why is railway still running trains on this line due to which it loses 100s of crores. This is where politics come into play, Nitish kumar in 2006 requested railways to give him the land of this route with a proposal to construct a four Lane road on it. Lalu Yadav (who was not his ally then) the railway minister at that time refused the proposal and trains continued to run. Then mamta and railway ministers after her also did the same thing and railway continues to lose crores.
